Lisbeth Mulcahy was born and grew up in Denmark but has lived and worked in Ireland all her adult life. She became involved in weaving in 1975 when she moved to the Dingle Peninsula. Having been shown the basics of weaving she developed her skills and style on her own to a level where she now runs a professional, full time studio and shop, employing a seasonal weaver and three staff. Her work has been shown in Paris and in galleries around Ireland. As well as her personal work she makes some commissioned pieces every year for clients from the public, commercial, church and private sectors.
Her tapestry work reflects both her environment, which is the beautiful Dingle Peninsula in West Kerry, and issues to do with the dichotomies between inner and outer worlds. Lisbeth’s standard /production work covers throws, table linen, and wall hangings. The style is minimalist, elegant, and clearly influenced by her Danish background.
